What makes me passionate about coaching?

I have been a part-time swimming coach for in excess of 22 years now, starting out as a nervous poolside helper to become a UKCCL3 Senior Coach. I have been lucky enough to be a coach on several County and Regional swim camps.

There are so many facets I love about our sport. Interacting with swimmers and helping them to achieve their goals to become better swimmers but also seeing them grow as individuals. Our sport can help teach young people to become team players, to be better able to manage their time in their busy lives of juggling training alongside school/ college work, friends and family commitments. When you see this happening you can’t fail to feel a sense of pride. I also like to share my experiences of coaching with other coaches, sharing ideas and knowledge to improve all of us to be better today than we were yesterday.

    Interesting Fact

I own a classic sports car and an old (but not classic.. yet..!!) motorbike. I’m married with 2 very grown up children, who are both ex-swimmers, have 2 dogs (Beagles) and live out in the sticks.

What makes me passionate about coaching?

Swimming was a huge part of my life growing up and I wanted to give back to the swimming community. I am very proud to be on the coaching team for BSC!

I coach because I love to help young people become the best versions of themselves – life can feel so hard around that age! I love to introduce young people to the water and teach them how to swim, whilst also helping the more advanced swimmers achieve their specific goals and become faster in the water.

Swimming is not only a sport, it also helps to develop life skills that you use on a daily basis – discipline, patience, endurance, coordination- and many more. I am here to support the swimmers in and out of the water.

What makes me passionate about coaching?

Coaching and teaching have always been great ways for me to help children and adults achieve their swimming goals. I’ve always been passionate and loved seeing people try hard, succeed and have a positive impact on their lives. I have taught and coached both children and adults to swim whom some find terrifying and some love, therefore, my experience in teaching different people with different abilities is very broad. Not only from my experience but from my own personal and professional growth, I have unique skills and knowledge that I bring to the table as a coach for BSC.

I have been coaching and volunteering at Bromsgrove Swimming Club since I was 16 and have also been teaching outside of the club since I gained my Level 2 in 2020. Bromsgrove Swimming Club is like a family to me, I have been swimming for this club since I was 9 and I’m now 21. I want to see and help all the swimmers achieve the best they can, just like my coaches did for me when I was in their position.

What makes me passionate about coaching?

I have been a competitive swimmer for Bromsgrove swimming club since I was 9 yrs old. The club gave me confidence and motivation growing up to become a true team player; to win and lose as a team.

I love to race and experience the atmosphere at competitions. It taught me the importance of commitment and dedication through county and national level swimming. It gave me the skills to cope with disappointment when I didn’t win, and how to support my team mates when they didn’t. I made friends with my toughest competitors from other clubs I’d regularly meet at big events. Also it gave me true friendships outside of school.

Developing my communication and motivational skills as a young volunteer helping younger swimmers, I went on to complete my teaching and lifeguard qualifications as soon as I was old enough.

Bromsgrove Swimming Club  has given me these important life skills and now I am proud to be able to help develop these skills with my Wave 1 swimmers, supporting them through their training but also through their first experiences of competitive galas.

What makes me passionate about coaching?

I have experience of competing as a child to county level and have also competed as a masters swimmer. I am also a long standing swim mum, having supported all four of my children through learn to swim at Bromsgrove Swimming Club, with two of them continuing to compete for the club.   I truly believe the benefits of joining a swim club family are endless and invaluable as a swimmer and as a swim Mum. In addition to watching life skills develop especially at competition level in my own children, I was also supported to qualify as a judge. This volunteering helps immensely with my poolside value assisting teachers and coaches, ensuring swimmers are aware of rules and regulations at competitive level.  Being part of a club that embraces the importance of fun and social development in addition to swimming technique is incredibly rewarding. I love being able to support and watch swimmers growth in personality and ability throughout their years with the club.

    Interesting Fact

I sleep in the day and work all night as a night nurse practitioner!
