History

Bromsgrove Swimming Club was formed by a small group of volunteers in 1966 with the aim of promoting competitive swimming in the district, with the consequent health and fitness benefits for its members.  We continue to swim at both the Dolphin Centre and Bromsgrove School pool – see section on swim sessions for details of times and days.

Some of today’s coaches, teachers and parents were themselves members in those early days, which says a lot about the club’s friendly family focus.  Our swimmers enter a range of swimming leagues around the Midlands, enjoying considerable success.  As a small club one of the benefits for our members is that most of our swimmers swim at these galas more regularly than they might in a larger club.  Additionally we enter a range of ‘B’ grade galas to give yet more of our club members a competitive swim.

The club caters for swimmers from around 5 years old up to senior swimmers, some of whose children now also swim with us.  Junior swimmers are the youngest up to the age of around 12 yrs, with the seniors being 13 yrs and above.  Progression from one group to the next depends on ability as well as a simple age break.

The club has an established masters section catering for adults seeking swim-coaching for its own sake, triathletes, or just to improve their technique and fitness.

Always looking for new members, Bromsgrove Swimming Club is looking forward to its next successful 50 years.
